Essential Question How did the scarcity of resources in Greece lead to the conquest of neighboring lands?

Essential Standard 6.G.1.2  Explain the factors that influenced the movement of people, goods, and ideas and the effects of that movement on societies and regions over time. 6.E.1.1  Explain how conflict, compromise, and negotiation over the availability of resources impacted the economic development of various civilizations, societies and regions.

Study this for quzzes The city states of Ancient Greece were covered by mountains and almost completely surrounded by water. Advantages of being covered by mountains and almost completely surrounded by water is: protection, trade, more interaction with other civilizations. Disadvantages of being covered by mountains and almost completely surrounded by water is: lack of resources and isolation of city states. Ancient Greeks were good sailors and boat builders because Ancient Greece was on a peninsula. Athens was a democracy just like the United States. Athens and Sparta were similar because they both had slaves, believed in same gods, and were located in Ancient Greece. Athens and Sparta were different because they had different governments. Athens was a democracy and Sparta was an oligarchy. Two ways the United States is similar to the city states of Ancient Greece is the Olympics and democracy. Democracy is when you vote for your leaders. Two major wars that were fought by the Ancient Greeks were : Peloponnesian War and Persian War. The Persian War was between Ancient Greek city states and Persia. Ancient Greek city states won. The Peloponnesian War was between the city states of Athens and Sparta. Sparta won. Because of lack of resources, Ancient Greeks had to create colonies. Because of this the Ancient Greeks became better sailors. Alexander the Great conquered the areas of Ancient Greece. If you listened to Alexander the Great he was good to you. Today Olympics are held every 4 years and everyone can participate.  The two most famous philosophers were: Socrates and Plato Philosophy is taught in universities today.
