Character 10 years old Big imagination Doesn’t really know what’s going on Grows older throughout the book Starts to learn about the dangers of her country Grows a “rebellious personality” Character

Setting Where? Tehran, Iran When? 1 year after the Iranian Revolution

Marji’s parents decide for her to move to Austria to attend a new school by herself Plot Marji becomes more rebellious as she grows older Marji’s grandmother helps her pack and tells her to never forget who she is Iraq begins bombing Tehran, have to spend time in a bomb shelter Country becomes more religious Marji’s mother is frightened after being attacked for not wearing the veil Marji’s parents drop her off at the airport and say their goodbyes Marji’s family starts to realize how dangerous the country Is becoming and become more cautious Marji’s uncle comes back after fighting as a revolutionary and spending time in prison 10 year old Marji Girls only school, forced to wear a veil

Childs perspective Theme Religion? Inequality? Coming of age? Family? Politics? Perspective? Fear? Feminism?

Age -Marji is growing up and becoming more of a teenager as we are too -She is starting to learn more and understand more -She is maturing and learning how to deal with things in certain situations connections

The golden key to paradise” The veil The golden key to paradise” Symbol The cigarette

conflict Person vs person Person vs environment Marji’s attitude -causing her to get into trouble at school - Causing stress/worry in her parents The changes that are caused to the way of life for the families -the bombings -when Marji’s mother was attacked for not wearing a veil -when Marji was approached for her “inappropriate look”

A child’s perspective from age 10 to age 16 First person Marji’s point of view A child’s perspective from age 10 to age 16 Point of view

So, does point of view affect results? Yes? Marji does not see the world the same way as her parents do, at first she does not understand what’s going on around her, but when she starts to learn about her surroundings, it doesn’t stop her from disobeying the laws

Has this novel mad me a life long lover of literature? Yes and no, Not my genre of book preference, plot was all over the place, sot of hard to understand but was very interesting to read
