Update for SSG Hannah Marder Cancer Manager UH Bristol Strategy Update Update for SSG Hannah Marder Cancer Manager UH Bristol

Achieving World-Class Cancer Outcomes This new National Strategy was published in summer 2015 It builds on previous strategies Emphasis on early diagnosis, prevention, survivorship, and patient experience Trusts have assessed their current practice against the recommendations Most recommendations are outside the direct/sole control of acute Trusts 18/04/2019

Cancer Alliances In order to implement the strategy, providers and commissioners have been instructed to form ‘Cancer Alliances’ These are a similar concept to the old style ‘cancer networks’ e.g. ASWCS Debate is ongoing about how these will work and what they will do! Likely to be an alliance for providers and commissioners encompassing Bristol, Bath, Weston, Somerset and Gloucester i.e. same as the ‘SWAG’ cancer network area Very little else concrete is known at present Cancer management teams meet regularly across the area to discuss this and will keep clinical teams updated and involved as appropriate 18/04/2019

‘Peer Review’ ‘Peer review’ has been replaced by ‘Quality Surveillance Programme’ Covers many services as well as cancer Focusses more on outcomes and existing data e.g. registry data, NOGCA, NCPES Less paperwork and more chance to assess what we feel matters in the service! A big change, but should be positive! 18/04/2019
