Writing the FRQ Follow your A, B, C and Ds!

A = ATTACK the Prompt CROSS OUT and “prune” the prompt. CIRCLE any word that asks you to do something. (i.e. “Discuss”) DRAW a line from the circled word to what it specifically tells you to do. REWRITE AND NUMBER the circled words and what it wants you to do.

B = BRAINSTORM possible answers Generate as many ideas off of EACH numbered/reworded tasks. Use a word web / outline / Venn to quickly get ideas down. Think about Vocabulary! Think of Examples. If struggling…walk through the units of study.

C = CHOOSE the Order of your Response Map out how you will write your response. Chart your course so you don’t get lost or forget where you were heading. Pick the best response / examples. Cut the rest. Plan carefully if creating a laundry list. Number the process if it helps.

D = DETECT Errors Before Turning In Reread the essay. Did it cover all the required parts? Did you provide examples? Can you add course specific vocabulary to show your knowledge?
