Conclusion Paragraph

Conclusion Paragraph Make your words count!

Here are ways to think about the purpose of a conclusion: To connect the paper's findings to a larger context, such as the wider conversation about an issue To suggest the implications of your findings or the importance of the topic To ask questions or suggest ideas

Should you summarize? Consider what readers can keep track of in their heads. If your paper is long or complex, some summary of your key points will remind readers of the ground you've covered.

Should you summarize? If your paper is short, your readers may not need a summary. In any paper, you'll want to push beyond mere summary to suggest the importance of your topic.

The conclusion should contain the following (not necessarily in this order): Make the conclusion unified (tie into the effective opener) Bring your point out to the real world Extend to the real world by providing an example

What is a unifying conclusion technique? (Tie into the intro) Look back at your introduction paragraph, especially your opener. Are there any keywords or ideas from the intro that you can use again in the conclusion? If you asked a question at the start, would it sound good to answer the question at the end?

What is the EXTENSION?? Make your idea relevant to the real world

Questions My Introduction My Conclusion How would one react if the people within his or her society caused another injury? Jem chooses to become cynical. Watching his town do the wrong thing caused Jem’s outlook to be forever changed. Tom Robinson gave up. When he realizes there was no hope for him, he decides to attempt escape which results in his untimely death. Questions

Quotation My Introduction My Conclusion Albert Camus once said, “No matter what cause one defends, it will suffer permanent disgrace if one resorts to blind attacks on crowds of innocent people.” In Jem’s eyes, the town has fallen to disgrace because of their blind attack on Tom Robinson. While it take the town longer to realize their racism, Tom recognizes it as he has lived through the racism. Quotation Blue=Keywords from intro used again

Intriguing Fact/Idea My Introduction My Conclusion More than half of Americans experience being treated with less courtesy or respect, receiving poorer service than others, and/or being threatened or harassed .  In Maycomb County, an entire community is treated as less than the other. Jem is forced to see this truth while Tom is forced to live it. Intriguing Fact/Idea

Fragments My Introduction My Conclusion Hatred. Injury. Ostracism. These can all happen to a person who sees the real malice in the world. Hatred. The town of Maycomb blindly follows their prejudice. Injury. Jem’s perception of his town is forever changed. Ostracism. Tom is outcast from the town and viewed solely as a criminal who tries to escape prison. Fragments

Set a Scene My Introduction My Conclusion A boy, left in tears, is disappointed in his town and forced to face the hate they reap. A man, shot 17 times, has his reputation tarnished and his life taken from him because of the racism of his town. When Jem cries after he watches the jury convict a clearly innocent man, he begins to doubt the morality of his neighbors. Tom, whose overly violent death would not have happened if he were never wrongfully convicted, is dead and forever remembered as the black man who raped Mayella and attempted to escape prison. Set a Scene

Metaphor My Introduction My Conclusion The innocent are delicate flowers that need protection. Jem is a delicate flower who is plucked too early. His outlook on humanity is forever altered. Tom is trampled, walked upon, never to see the sun again. The accusation made towards him by the Ewells ended his brief but honest life. Metaphor

Riddle My Introduction My Conclusion It is all-consuming, powerful, and life-changing. It is the racism deeply embedded in a town’s mindset. The racism consumed members of Maycomb County. Jem’s innocence is destroyed while Tom loses his life after being incarcerated for a crime he did not commit. Riddle

Definition My Introduction My Conclusion To be innocent is the lack of guile or corruption. These two characters embody what it means to be innocent. Jem’s uncorrupted mind makes it difficult for him to understand Tom’s conviction. Unable to grasp the logic behind the verdict, Jem is left questioning the goodness of his town. Tom, whose word will never be taken of that of a white man, hopelessly watches his life come to an end when he is wrongfully accused and convicted of raping Mayella. Definition

Real World Extension Possible examples for it’s wrong to harm the innocent: Prove your theme exists by using a real world example. Sandy Hook Elementary Shooting Any mass shooting Terror attacks Bombings of non-military buildings

Real World Extension Prove your theme exists by using a real world example. Much like the fictional town of Maycomb County, one does not have to look far to see innocent people harmed in the real world. Mass shootings are a horrific and, unfortunately, frequent occurrence in the United States. From concert venues to elementary schools, lives are lost at a high number. Not only that, but survivors are left scarred, families are torn apart, and many are left to question the morality of the world. Innocent people are wronged everyday, and it is a tragedy that must be stopped.
