California department of corrections Analysis of Inmates

The following will be analyzed in this report: overview This PowerPoint presentation is an analysis based on the 2010 California Department of Corrections report (California Department of Corrections, 2010) on California prisoners and parolees. The following will be analyzed in this report: The five offences with the highest occurrence. The ethnic distribution of the population. The number of occurrences of assaults on the staff. Communication strategies for working with prisoners and parolees will be analyzed with a consideration of culture and gender. Discussion how better language and communication would improve safety in the Department of Corrections in California.

Ethnic distribution Here is the ethnic distribution of the prisoners and parolees population: Total – 162,821 Male – 153,047 Female – 9,774

Assaults on staff There is no information in the California Department of Corrections Report of 2010 (California Department of Corrections, 2010) regarding the number of assaults on staff that take place in the institution.

Communication strategies – culture and gender Correctional officers who understand the culture and the gender of the inmates and the parolees are at a better position to communicate with the inmates to avoid any conflicts (California Department of Corrections, 2017).

Language and communication Understanding the language of the inmates would also help in avoiding conflicts between staff and the inmates (California Department of Corrections, 2017).
