Warm Up, January 25th, 2017 1) List every resource of energy you know and list it as renewable or non-renewable. Try to do at least 7. 2) Pretend there is a soda machine at school. The soda machine is only filled once per year at the beginning of the year. How could we make the soda last longer in the machine (cannot refill)?

Renewable* Any source of energy that can be continually produced and is inexhaustible given current conditions. Non-Renewable* Any source of energy that exists in limited quantities and once used, cannot be replaced except over the course of millions of years.

Non-Renewable Resources* Hydro Solar Wind Geothermal Biomass (causes CO2 emissions) Non-Renewable Resources* Oil Natural Gas Coal Nuclear (does not cause CO2 emissions)

Bill Nye - Energy

How does government work?

But how does government work? Sure there’s the Legislative branches that pass laws. Judicial to interpret them. And Executive to enforce them.

But how does government work? REALLY But how does government work?

But how does government REALLY work? Each & every industry, interest & age group has its own LOBBYIST!

WIND (air) SOLAR (sunlight) GEOTHERMAL COAL MINERALS OIL NATURAL GAS There’s a lot of different ENERGY SOURCES. EACH has its own INDUSTRY LOBBYISTS! RENEWABLE—replaces itself faster than we use it NON-RENEWABLE—we use it faster than it can be replaced. HYDRO (water) POWER WIND (air) SOLAR (sunlight) GEOTHERMAL COAL MINERALS OIL NATURAL GAS BIO-MASS TOPSOIL NUCLEAR

Divide up into your peer groups. Each group is going to represent ONE ENERGY SOURCE.

Today, you will research what your energy source has the BEST to offer. 1 person leads research (all contribute)

Today, you will research what your energy source has the BEST to offer. If you’re having trouble organizing your information, use the following questions as guidelines while researching. Identify 10+ Pros and Cons of using your energy. List hazards and benefits of using your energy. Find statistics and safety concerns with using your energy Any interesting facts you think people might want to hear
