Driving for Better Business: Not business as usual Safer Highways Conference 11th June 2018 Stuart Lovatt Strategic Road Safety Lead

The Aim The Ambition The Mission   The Ambition The Mission To improve the awareness of work-related road safety, employers’ duty of care and employees’ responsibilities. To bring about a radical change in how organisations think about work-related road safety. To improve the levels of compliance for all those who drive or rode for work and to demonstrate the dramatic business benefits of managing work-related road safety more effectively.

“The Highways England Driving for Better Business Programme supports the British Road Safety Statement in raising awareness of the importance of work-related road safety. Road safety is not just a matter for government and the public sector. It is an issue that requires support from the private sector, and that means businesses making sure they are compliant with current legislation.” Jessie Norman, MP. Parliamentary Under Secretary of State for Roads, Local Transport and Devolution Transport Safety Commission Recommends that employers should be encouraged by the HSE to adopt and implement procedures for developing road safety management systems to help reduce work related road injuries and incidents Mission The outcome for us is fewer incidents on the road network, the motivator for business is their bottom line – well managed WRRS significantly improves a company’s profitability For the public sector, it can significantly reduce your costs! DfBB is the enabler for this

Driving for Better Business – Our approach The Programme – More than a campaign to raise awareness, it engages organisations of all sizes at all levels across the private and public sectors Supported by strategic partners and champion organisations Strategic Partners DfT HSE NPCC NFCC Beginning the discussion with the Devolved Administrations HSE INDG382
