Figure 1 MRI features of HCC. The left top panel shows an arterial phase MRI examination of the liver and an enhancing mass in the right lobe, which further intensifies in the left bottom panels indicated by the arrowheads. The right top panel shows a 2-minute delayed MRI examination that shows the mass in the right lobe, but this is hypointense compared with the rest of the liver as well as when compared with the arterial phase. This is the phenomenon of washout of contrast. The right lower panel shows a 5-minute examination that highlights washout of contrast in the delayed phase compared with the arterial phase examination.
