Journal Writing and Sharing Journal Prompt: What is the best gift you have ever received? What was it and why was it the best gift? Don’t worry about grammar! Just allow your thoughts to flow freely. You will have 10 minutes. Then, share your journal entry with your group.

To be in the same boat: When everyone is facing the same challenges. Who are you in the same boat with right now?

Idiom of the Day A Taste Of Your Own Medicine: Example: Did you see those two people cutting in front of us in line just now? Let's cut in front of them and give them a taste of their own medicine!

A Taste Of Your Own Medicine: When you are mistreated the same way you mistreat others. If you give someone a taste of their own medicine, you do something bad to someone that they have done to you to teach them a lesson. Have you ever given someone a taste of their own medicine?

Description in writing It’s time to get your fruit and use it! We will practice using our senses and writing about fruit and a memory. First, let’s read two examples.

Activity With your group, first present your fruit. Think of the 5 senses of the fruit for each fruit in your group. For 10 minutes, each person should talk about your fruit and the 5 senses How does it look? How does it feel? How does it taste? How does it sound when you bite into it? Or when it falls from a tree? How does it smell? TRY NOT TO REPEAT THE SAME ADJECTIVES.

Writing After you brainstormed with your group, choose one topic and write a paragraph or two about it for 20 minutes. Your choices are: Describe the fruit using your senses (it’s ok to eat your fruit while you do this!) Describe that fruit in a memory you have (like the examples) Tell me anything you want about that fruit—it’s wonderful to be creative if you want!

Class Project Part 1: Interview. How are your interviews going? Part 2: Essay about your experience and thoughts after you finish Part 1. Each student should write a 3 – 5 paragraph essay about their thoughts or reflections about their experience from the interviews. You should include information about where each person you interviewed is from. Write a strong topic sentence that the rest of your essay will support. For example: I learned many things about international people living in Korea based on interviews I had with five people.

You can have the freedom to organize your essay the way you choose, but remember to include your thoughts about the experience and what you learned from Part 1. This essay will be due at the beginning of class on Thursday, May 16th. I will not accept any late papers.

Midterms You have 5 – 10 minutes to review your midterm exam and then I will collect them. Feel free to ask me any questions.
