Mobile platforms & integration with IoT technologies Mobile Crowdsensing, Social and Big Data as Innovation Enablers for Future Internet Cloud-based Architectures and Services Mobile platforms & integration with IoT technologies Theodoros Michalareas tmichalareas@velti.com Athens - March 13, 2014
digital.me & IoT
Smartphone as sensor
Smartphone as router Aggregate & bridge data
Smartphone as IoT application platform
Smartphone & IoT integration - local Mobile to IoT IoT to Cloud Bridge Support collecting & controlling IoT devices without cloud API interaction For example: Energy efficiency applications Collect data & pass them to the cloud For example: Fitness applications Mobile to Mobile user context [applications, locations, device] SDKs and OS support for local interactions For example iBeacon iOS 7 API CLBeaconRegion, notifyOnEntry, and notifyOnExit
Smartphone & IoT integration - cloud Store & access IoT networks data Build & access smart services User & device identification Privacy & Transparency Access control Physical graph Focus on scalable storage and policy mgmt. Service APIs management & provisioning complexity 3rd parties services integration/Social Knowledge management Context API Focus on OneAPI architectures and Knowledge management
IoT/smartphones challenges – human & things graphs Social graph – 4bn people Physical graph – 31bn devices Scalable property graphs Model ore that connectivity
IoT/smartphones challenges – context Contextual OS/Contextual WEB for IoT & smartphones Contribute to user context definition through physical graph Develop context & physical graph based applications
IoT/smartphones challenges – privacy & value Transparency for physical graph interactions & mining Explicit Opt-in/Opt-out for IoT related identifiers Value attribution
IoT/smartphone – IoT enabled advertising Push notification is sent to users handset User is invited to checkin to the billboard to be part of a promotion User is identified close to an IoT billboard
IoT from the trenches - iBeacons UK chain ‘Eat’ and Weve, a venture backed by Vodafone, O2 and EE, are looking to trial how iBeacon performs in offering customers location- and contextual-based offers. The use of iBeacon will allow Eat to send opted-in users a number of offers once someone enters one of their sites.
