History September 2008 – ad hoc committee appointed to design a program recognizing outstanding performance of Life Member Groups. Determined that the recognition should be based upon: the numbers of meetings held by the LM Group, the average attendance at meetings and the number of contributors to the LMF. number of contributors to the LMF.   4/22/2019

Rankings Rankings will be calculated based on the previous year’s data. Each Life Member Group will be assigned a score based on the following formula S = 5 Meet + 100 Att + 100 Con Where Meet = No. of LMG meetings per year Att = Ave meeting attendance / No of LMG members Con = No of contributors to LMF / No of LMG members   4/22/2019

Goal A successful LMG recognition program will result in improvements, including:   Satisfaction of IEEE life members with their IEEE involvement Recognition of the contributions of life members to IEEE activities Number of Life Member Groups Membership in Life Member Groups Participation of life members in IEEE activities Giving to the Life Members Fund   4/22/2019

Currently Award given out for four years (2009-2013) Historically given to the top 15 affinity groups Same affinity groups have been recognized each year 46% of awarded sections have won 3 to 5 times out 5 years award given Questions: Is the award still serving it’s original goals if the same affinity groups are being recognized? Should the formula be altered? Should number of awardees per year be changed? 4/22/2019

October 2012 LMC Meeting - A discussion was held regarding the current criteria and algorithm that is used to recognize outstanding Life Member Affinity Groups. It seems that since the inception of this recognition (4 years), about 50% of the recipients receive the award annually. The LMC agreed that they would like to evaluate the algorithm further and determine next best steps. Action Item: To review the current algorithm and to provide a recommendation to the Life Member Committee via email as the best way to proceed. 4/22/2019
