BY: Lyria aneed and mckenna Young Media's Influence How many of you guys use social media? How about on a daily basis? Exactly. Today's generation gets everything almost instantaneously, and most of the information that get day-to-day is from the internet. Media has an obvious influence on how we see the world. BY: Lyria aneed and mckenna Young

The Plan What we'll do How we'll do it Expected results Use the base(s) of the media to create a platform that is healthier for teens. What we'll do Healthier/helpful content more visual and more engaging. Appeal to multi-screen and mobile use. How we'll do it More helpful pages will become popular for teens to resource Teens will make better choices. Expected results 1. Encourage them to not affiliate with drugs, Tobacco, and Alcohol through the famous, making both social media and real life almost safer in a way. 2. Since teen behavior shifts so quickly, if we make healthier content more appealing, more teens will focus in, this is including the use of celebrities or athletes who will encourage the abstinence of drugs and alcohol through both online and television  3. and through this they will be seeing what good lives they could have without harming themselves with dangers of their current decisions.

This is the information on how many users there are on the most popular social media websites by the million, as well as the estimates amount of teens who still watch TV. Notice that I emphasize on teens, while most people go to Hulu, Netflix, or YouTube; they are now classified as ways to watch videos like television. Through these sources of media, thousands of lives can be changed, the famous live through these outlets, and teens will as well just to keep up with their favorite actor or athlete.  Imagine if the plan is carried out, TV stops glorifying the use of drugs and the famous start chastising on it. Teens will be scared to let down their idols, thereby reducing the amount of drug and alcohol use.

What Role Does Social Media Play in Teen Usage of Drugs, Alcohol, and Tobacco? Compared to teens that spend no time on social networking sites in a typical day, teens that do are: 5 times likelier to use tobacco 3 times likelier to use alcohol Twice as likely to use marijuana (2011) Compared to teens who do not, most teens who typically watch one or more such programs per week are: Twice as likely to use tobacco Almost twice as likely to use alcohol More than 1 ½ times likelier to use marijuana Twice as likely to be able to get marijuana within a day or less More than 1 ½ times likelier to be able to get prescription drugs without a prescription within a day or less (2011) Back in 2011, " a survey had asked 12- to 17-year olds whether they spend time on Facebook, Snapchat or other social networking sites in a typical day. 70% of teens report spending time on social networking sites in a typical day compared to 30% of teens who say they do not. So from this time it concluded that 17 million 12- to 17-year olds were social networking in a typical day.'

Final Statement Together we can create a change through social media. Let's be realistic here, this will not eliminate the problem of teen drug abuse, but it can curb it. It may take some time, because the effects wont  happen automatically. But lets look at this from a wider spectrum, almost every teen uses social media on a daily basis, so what better way to connect to the teens than through this? Once the plan is followed through, the amount of drug users may go down and create a healthier society and generation of teens. We can create a change slowly but surely, and by doing this we can develop a safer world for us, our children, our childrens children, and so on. I know it may not seem important now how the generations after us maybe left off, but even though you may not think it is that important, it still is, so lets work together to make a better place for everyone both now and later. Thank you.  Together we can create a change through social media.
