EQ: What is the purpose of a controlled experiment? Experimentation EQ: What is the purpose of a controlled experiment?

How do we analyze our results? Organizing data into tables and graphs makes relationships between information easy to see

How do we draw conclusions? Why do we do a controlled experiment? Conclude if your results support or do not support your hypothesis and tell WHY? To test a hypothesis

What is data? Any pieces of information that we get by experimenting

What is a controlled experiment? Compares the results of a control group with the results from an experimental group *All factors stay the same except for 1.*

What is a variable? The factor that changes

SUMMARY In a controlled experiment all factors remain the same except one. The factor that changes is called the variable. We do a controlled experiment to test our hypothesis. Data is pieces of information. Results can be analyzed using tables and graphs. Your conclusion either supports or does not support your hypothesis.
