Remember, one of the main costs in construction is Labour/manpower. Transport and storage can add to costs. Bad weather can have a severe impact upon timescale and hence costs. Waiting for materials to be delivered, waiting for things to set or dry etc. can add to timescale/costs. The need for skilled labour adds to cost; if you can use pre-fabricated components you need less skill to assemble and can also save time.
