Unit 5 M2: compare traditional and modern construction operations and processes in terms of overall productivity and costs 1) List Traditional methods of construction 2) List modern methods 3) Give estimates of timescales involved with each method. State which methods are faster and why this is the case. 4) Give some indication of the relative costs involved in each method. 5) State which methods you would prefer top use and why you would choose them. Remember, one of the main costs in construction is Labour/manpower. Transport and storage can add to costs. Bad weather can have a severe impact upon timescale and hence costs. Waiting for materials to be delivered, waiting for things to set or dry etc. can add to timescale/costs. The need for skilled labour adds to cost; if you can use pre-fabricated components you need less skill to assemble and can also save time.
