Biographical Writing

Biographical Writing A form of nonfiction The writer tells the true life story of another person Include: Subject Writer-subject connection Research interpretation

Subject Typically an important, inspiring, or fascinating person May or may not be famous Must be presented as compelling and worth studying

Writer – Subject Connection The biographer typically has a deep interest in and a strong appreciation for the subject

Research Uses: Primary-source documents (original documents) Other works on the subject Interviews with the subject Interviews with people about the subject

Interpretation Facts are interpreted and analyzed and presented in a meaningful way Consideration on the order, details, and connections are important

Author’s Tone (attitude) May openly state their attitude Or can show attitude through word choice and details
