Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. lived his life serving others Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. lived his life serving others. On the third Monday of January each year, we celebrate Martin Luther King Day to commemorate his peaceful activism in the civil rights movement.  His message is ingrained in the spirit of America, and part of the way we honor him is actually rooted in Pennsylvania. The national Martin Luther King Day of Service was started by former Pennsylvania U.S. Senator Harris Wofford and Atlanta Congressman John Lewis, who co-authored the King Holiday and Service Act.  Following his example, millions of Americans serve on Martin Luther King Jr. Day of Service. At our children's schools, at a local shelter, or lending a hand to help our neighbors – we join Dr. King as drum majors for justice, peace and righteousness. Beyond the U.S., his message resonates throughout the world. In fact, the Japanese city of Hiroshima as well as our Northern neighbors in Toronto celebrate King’s message of human rights. In Other News President Trump is set Friday to undergo his first physical exam since taking office — a move that could offer a rare public snapshot of the 71-year-old leader's health. "I think it's going to go very well," Trump told reporters Thursday. "I'll be very surprised if it doesn't.” The exam will be overseen by Dr. Ronny Jackson, a Navy rear admiral who directs the White House medical unit. Friday's work-up will be conducted at Walter Reed National Medical Center outside Washington. President Trump on Thursday referred to African nations in derogatory terms during a meeting on immigration with a bipartisan group of senators, according to an aide. Trump made the comment during a discussion of U.S. visa and immigration policies inside the Oval Office. Trump was meeting with the senators to discuss a bipartisan plan to grant legal protections to the roughly 800,000 immigrants who are in the country illegally after being brought to the country as children. During the conversation Trump also questioned why the U.S would want to accept people from countries like Haiti and said the U.S. should want more people from countries like Norway, the aides said.
