Power. Definition: The amount of energy converted to heat, light, sound or motion per unit of time Unit: Power is measured in watts (W) Naming: Named.
Power -rate at which work is done or amount of work done in a unit of time -The faster work can be done the more power there is Power = work / time or.
Energy and Its Conservation. Energy Energy is defined as the ability of a body or system of bodies to perform work. Energy can be subdivided into other.

WORK

1. Work Work – transfer of energy that occurs when a force makes an object move Two conditions for work: (A) object must MOVE AND (B) object must move in the SAME DIRECTION as the applied force

2. Work and Energy Remember…energy is the ability to cause change; in other words, the ability to do work Energy is always transferred from the object that is doing the work to the object on which the work is done

3. Calculating Work Work = Force X Distance W= F X D Force = N; Distance=M; Work = J Greater force or distance…greater amount of work involved (Distance only while force is applied to it.)

4. Power Power – amount of work done in a certain amount of time; ie, the rate at which work is done Power = Work/Time Power is measured in watts (W)

Watts Named after James Watt, inventor of the steam engine Watt is very small…about the power needed to raise a glass of water from the table Thus, power is often measured in kilowatts 1 kilowatt = 1,000 watts

5. Power and Energy Doing work is one way of transferring energy from one object to another (not all energy requires work) Power is produced or used any time energy is transferred from one object to another Thus, Power = Energy/Time
