4.01 Career Clusters Pathways

Explain a Career Clusters? It’s a group of jobs related to one another by common interest, these jobs range from entry level to professional. There are 16 clusters in which all jobs in the U.S. can be grouped into.

Pathways subgroups of career clusters knowledge and skill requirements are targeted toward a very specific group of occupations that share common abilities

Why should I study the clusters? Because they help you explore a wide range of jobs within a career area

1. Agriculture and Natural Resources Only 10% of the worker are involved in ranching and farming Requires two-to-four years of college. Must like to work outdoor with nature and the natural elements A forester is a job in this cluster Provides basic human needs

2. Architecture and Construction To be an engineer you must at least have your bachelors degree. Must be good in Math and Science Requires that you be licensed before practicing as an architect. HS classes such as welding and drafting would be great classes for this field

3. Arts, Audio-Visual Technology, & Communication Needs to have good interpersonal and intrapersonal skills. High school classes such as art, yearbook, chemistry, math and English are great course for this field. This is no postsecondary school required however they are suggested. TV announcer is a job in this cluster

4. Business and Administration Must be well organized, good with numbers and systems HS business classes are good for the field. Need computer skills, common sense, decision-making skills, and problem solving abilities.

5. Education and Training Need at least a bachelors degree in order to become a teacher Must have great interpersonal skills and love to make an impact Do not make as much money as some other professions but have great benefits

6. Finance (Business Technologies) Good with money Is growing rapidly as far as international sales. computers, auditor, accountant HS courses in math, finance and business courses are good in this field Bachelor’s degree or advanced training is required for most of the careers in this cluster.

7. Government and Public Administration Training on these job range from on-the-job training to advanced degrees. People enter this field for various reasons. All HS classes especially the arts will help in this field

8. Health Science Must be a helper type person. The job outlook looks great because as long as we have children and we continue to age, we will need someone to take care of us HS courses in health, biology, health occupations and psychology Normally complete 7 to 10 years of postsecondary education.

9. Hospitality and Tourism Great interpersonal skills Some jobs are seasonal and sometimes requires working weekends, nights or holidays Many jobs require no specific education. Lots of OTJ training.

10. Human Service (Public Service) Involves helping, protecting and nurturing others. Most require one to be licensed and renew their skills often. Many do not require college degree HOWEVER it does require specialized training. Firefighters, day care workers

11. Information Technology Fastest going field of all career clusters One need at least an associates degree and continuous updating of their skills HS computer, math and sciences classes are good for this career cluster.

12. Law and Public Safety Helping people stay safe through the legal system. Requires many types of supervised field experiences. OTJ, Associate, Bachelor of Science or Bachelor of Arts are common. Communication, strong ethics, and conflict-resolution skills are required.

13. Manufacturing Most work indoors, noisy conditions White-collar Normally salaried jobs that do not require specialized clothes. Blue-collar Because work requires specialized clothes. OTJ, apprenticeships or technical training is needed Strong in math, science along with good teamwork and communication skills

14. Retail/Wholesale Sales and Service Enterprising skills, and very interpersonal Forecasters predict greater than average job growth Requires no prior experience for entry-level positions women make up ½ of the workforce in retail sales

15. Scientific Research/Engineering Many jobs require one to devising new methods to solve problems. Highly technical, requires a firm background in Math and Science. Lots of physical and social science along with engineering In most cases….. LOTS AND LOTS OF SCHOOLING.

16. Transportation, Distribution, and Logistics Range from bus driver, to flying airplane Requires license in your profession Does not require college however it is suggested.
