A Hub for Research & Innovation A dynamic Northern Powerhouse in policing research and knowledge exchange Founded in 2013 as a platform for collaborations between universities, PCCs, police forces and partners across the north of England. New phase of development – HEFCE Catalyst Grant 2015-2020 Harnessing: Skills, capabilities and resources across the North of England. Multi-disciplinary expertise in problem-solving. Delivering at a scale with real impact by fostering cross-force collaborations. Priorities: Building research co-production capacity; Testing mechanisms for exploiting knowledge and expertise to strengthen the evidence-base on which policy, practice and training are developed; Supporting innovation and the professionalisation of policing.

2015 - 2020 Objectives Produce high quality, independent research To build policing research and knowledge exchange capacity in HEIs To enhance the quality, integrity, scope, synthesis and exploitation of datasets To develop capacity and resources in (a) policing research and (b) police and crime data analytics To encourage and foster the development of national and international links To develop and disseminate a transferable model of practice

TRAINING and LEARNING Strand, Lancaster ‘Mission’ ‘To enhance research training and learning among police and partners organisations to secure research impact and maximise the practical benefits to policing innovation and the exploitation of data’ 

DATA ANALYTICS Strand, Leeds ‘Mission’ ‘The Data Analytics strand will collaborate with police and academic partners to support data sharing, analysis, and use. Aiming to facilitate research collaboration, the strand will develop a forum and clearing house to improve data quality and accessibility. Improving access to police and other sources of hard to reach data will provide opportunities for police staff and academics to develop the innovative solutions needed to deliver effective policing at a time of diminishing resources’

Data Specialists in Policing: Programme of Continuing Professional Development New collaborative venture between the N8 Training and Learning and Data Analytics strands: Data Specialists in Policing One-year pilot programme of CPD for Policing Information and Data Specialists To support Policing Information and Data Specialists to develop their skills in collecting, utilising and presenting quantitative data and statistics in ways which identify the ‘problem’ and provide an evidence-base from which solutions, new initiatives, new understandings can be developed 3 Policing Information and Data Specialists from each of the 11 N8 PRP police forces for the whole programme Co-development and co-delivery between N8 PRP academics and policing information and data specialists using ‘real’ police data and case studies where ever possible Launch 10th & 11th January 2018
