Work and Power. What is force? A force is a push or a pull.
Work done is the energy transferred when a force moves an object over a distance. Since work is energy transferred, the unit for work is the joule (J).
Work  When a force causes an object to MOVE in the DIRECTION of the force.  Calculated using the equation:  Force x Distance  F x d  Units  Newton.

What is WORK? A – The Meaning of Work 1 – Work – is done on an object when the object moves in the SAME direction in which the force is exerted. Example:
Understanding and Calculating Work Work - When a force acts on an object and causes it to move through a distance, energy is transferred and work is done.
Work  Work occurs when: 1.An object moves when a force is applied 2.The direction of the objects motion is the same as the direction of the force Formula:

Work Work is an amount of force applied to an object making it move a certain distance *If an object doesn’t move, no work is done

Work As such… W = F × d (Work = Force × distance) Units of work are joules where 1 joule = 1 kg·m2/s2 = 1 N·m (Newton-meter)

Work Practice Problems 1. While out with friends, someone’s car runs out of gas. They apply a cumulative force of 1080 N to push the car 210 m to the nearest gas station. Determine the work done on the car. 2. Someone is using rope to horizontally pull an object across an icy pond. They pull the object 5 meters using 10 J. How much force was applied to the object? 3. A powerlifter applies 3000 N of force to do 2600 J of work lifting a barbell off the floor. How high did they lift the barbell?
