What must humans do to stay alive? Make a list!. Too Legit to Quit: Maintaining Life.
Essential Question: How do major organ systems work together in living organisms? Standards: S7L2d. Explain that tissues, organs, and organ systems serve.
1.2 Maintaining Life Objectives: 1. Become familiar with the human body’s necessary life functions & survival needs. 2. Define homeostasis & how it persists.
Maintaining Life!! Organ systems don’t work in isolation; they work cooperatively to promote the well-being of the entire body. Characteristics of living.
  Aim: How do we know the   difference between living   and nonliving things?
Introduction to Human Anatomy & Physiology 1. Anatomy & Physiology defined Anatomy is the study of the structure of body parts and their relationships.
Anatomy & Physiology Intro:. For next class period…. Read pgs 2-4 Compare and contrast anatomy and physiology. How would the role or duties of an anatomist.

What are the life processes by which the life of an organism is maintained? What are the life processes by which the life of an organism is maintained?
Aim: How are living things different from non-living things? Do Now 1.What do you have in common with other living things? 2.Explain what a life process.
F. Necessary Life Functions - Our organ systems work together to maintain the following functions:
Sponge What is life? What makes something living? Write 3 or 4 sentences to explain. What is life? What makes something living? Write 3 or 4 sentences.
Anatomy- study of the structure and shape of the body and its parts Physiology-study of how the body and its parts work or function Gross Anatomy-large.

AP Ch 1 Learning Targets

LT 1-2 2. List and explain the characteristics of life-NOT ON TEST 1. Differentiate between anatomy & physiology 2. List and explain the characteristics of life-NOT ON TEST

Anatomy-structure physiology- function

LT #2 Characteristics of Life _NOT ON TEST Movement - self initiated change in position, motion of internal parts Responsiveness (irritability) - Ability to sense changes and react to them Growth - increase in body size Reproduction - Parents produce offspring / producing new individuals Respiration - Obtaining oxygen (O2), using it to release energy from food substances, and getting rid of wastes Digestion - Chemically changing (breaking down) food substances, and getting rid of wastes Circulation - Movement of substances throughout the body Excretion - Removal of wastes ON TEST METABOLISM:: All physical and chemical changes occurring in an organism(building up and breaking down) HOMEOSTASIS: Tendency of the body to maintain a stable, balanced internal environment. Accomplished by 11 body systems (LT 10) hot-cold, hungry, thirsty, urination, rate of breathing, clotting

Catabolism tore it up Anabolism I’m putting it together

Metabolic processes-ON TEST

LT 3-levels of organization-NOT on TEST

Also cute, but not a monkey…

LT 5-Organ systems

Positive vs Negative Feedback
