Highlighting Informational Passages Highlight or not? That is the question.

Highlighting 101 You do not need to highlight everything! Many people spend more time highlighting information than what is necessary. Take the time to highlight key ideas that are important for the passage.

What should I do before I decide to highlight something? Look for new information Get a feel for what is important Don’t waste time highlighting repeats!

What should I highlight in the text? The main idea Features like names, dates, and places This is only important for some types of texts! Key words that help determine the purpose
