Informal Letters

Why do we write informal letters? We write informal letters to … tell others how we feel tell others what happened to us tell others what we plan to do show our care ask for advice

Who do we write informal letters to? friends parents grandmothers and grandfathers uncles and aunts cousins

Let’s read an informal letter together.

Date We sometimes put the date on top of the letter so that people know when we wrote the letter. Date

Salutation The salutation is the greeting in an informal letter, e.g. Dear Tom, Salutation

Main body We write past events using the simple past tense. We write facts and habits using the simple present tense. Main body

Closing In an informal letter, we can end the letter with Yours, Best wishes, Love, Closing

Sender Sign or write your name at the end of the letter. Sender’s name
