WORD OF THE DAY- ISLAND HOPPING Warm Up: Why would the strategy of “Island Hopping” be necessary based on the Pacific’s geography?

Turn and Talk to your Partner War in the Pacific Japanese Advance: After the Pearl Harbor attack the Japanese achieved quick victories in the Pacific, taking over Malaya, Burma, Indonesia, Singapore, Hong Kong, the Philippines, and the Western Pacific Islands. Turn and Talk to your Partner Why were the Japanese able to advance so quickly?   What other areas are in danger of Japanese takeover?
