SWOT Analysis Internal StrengthsWeaknesses External OpportunitiesThreats f

The question or focus How well does this program facilitate the participants abilities to attain the goals of the program? (teaching & learning?)

The Key Steps 1.Brainstorm lists of strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats 2.Prioritize the top ideas 3.Review each category and prioritize 4.Leverage the best ideas (internal/external)

How well does the EDC (membership as well as board or organizers) facilitate the participants ability to attain the goals of the organization?

Table Groups Process Form into 4 groups Appoint recorder 5-7 minutes brainstorming Go to other table, but… Recorder stays to facilitate for new participants Repeat until all quadrants have been addressed

Strengths: Some questions to ask: What do we do exceptionally well? What advantages do we have? What magnificent assets and resources do we have? What do students, grads, the community identify as our strengths? +++?

Weaknesses: Some questions to ask and answer: What could we do better? What are we criticized for or receive complaints about? Where are we vulnerable? Where are we lacking skills or resources? +++? Hint: don't tiptoe around, but be constructive and positive in putting them on the table.

Opportunities: Some questions to ask and answer: What opportunities do we know about, but have not been able to address? Are there emerging trends on which we can capitalize? Consider: location, events, issues, outside organizations, etc.

Threats: Some questions to ask and answer: What external roadblocks exist that block our progress? What is the competition doing? Is there significant change coming in our discipline? Are outside conditions affecting our effectiveness?

Review and Prioritize Use your labels to identify what you think is most important, doable, powerful in each quadrant Use at least one label (dot) per quadrant You only place one label on an item Review priorities as a group

Leverage the best For each of the chosen ideas Suggest a way that it could addressed to your programs effectiveness Consider complimentary pairings (internal/external)

Next steps: evaluation report and…
