Tuesday April 4, 2017 Chicken eggs takes 21 days to hatch Tuesday April 4, 2017 Chicken eggs takes 21 days to hatch. There home is a incubator, which keeps the air warm and moist. Using a sharp “egg tooth” on its beak, each chick starts to “pip” (peck) the inner shell membrane on day 19. The chick breaths air in side the shell and makes it’s lungs stronger. in the next two days, the chick will pip the outer shell thousand’s of times. Finally, the shell will brake completely, leting the chick out.

The Book Thief Turn to page 56 (the start of the prologue). We’re going to read to page 68. As we read: In addition to our normal analysis questions, after reading we’re going to write a letter to one of the characters in the next so far. So, as we read, consider what you’d like to tell them.

Goals for Today… Text Comprehension/Analysis Questions: After we read, respond to the questions on the front of your handout. Be sure to explain your responses fully and provide supporting textual evidence if necessary. Character Letter: On the back of your handout, write a letter to one of the characters at this point in The Book Thief (Death, Liesel, Hans, Rosa, Rudy, or Kurt). Imagine your character will really get your letter, and it might even change the outcome of the book. Consider: What will you say to them? Comforting words? Some advice? A warning? A question? The direction of this letter will be up to you, but you will need to write at least 10 sentences for full credit. 
