Awareness for Parents, Teachers and Students Presented By Vapes, Dabs, Juuls...Oh My! Awareness for Parents, Teachers and Students Presented By

How JUUl made nicotine go viral! https://youtu.be/AFOpoKBUyok

What is a Dab Pen? A dab pen is a vaporizer pen specifically designed to vape cannabis concentrates. A regular dab pen comes with atomizers, coils for heating the material and mouthpiece, through which you inhale to get the vapor.

What is out there Most commonly we find JUUL, Smok, Breeze. There are many other brands. As the business grows, the options will as well.

Fillable vs. Cartridge Based Fillable devices can be re-filled with juice. Juice with 16 mg per use, is equal to one cigarette contents of nicotine. One cartridge of a Juul is said to be equal to one pack of cigarettes. Stronger doses are available. Fillable devices are much more difficult to measure. Often people will put a strong dosage and control the intake with calibrated devices. We have found many vapes with 0mg juice labels.

What can law enforcement do? Existing state laws make it illegal for anyone to sell or provide e-cigarettes, vaping devices, or tobacco to anyone under the age of 21. Our local law enforcement agencies can enforce that law with the use of citations or arrests. The Petaluma Police Department will be conducting a series of tobacco sting operations targeting businesses selling to minors. Working with Petaluma Parents Against Drugs (PPAD) with education to parents and students.

What can school do? Possessing, selling, or using any drug paraphernalia, including electronic smoking devices, is a violation of the Education Code (48900j) and Board Policy(5144). Students violating this code and policy are subject to suspension of up to five days, as well as possible referral to law enforcement. Repeat offenders face a possible referral for expulsion. Petaluma City School District staff will offer interventions and deterrents to any student suspended for these violations. We are working on adding more “vape” specific information to our health and human interaction curriculum. We also have grant funding to install vape detectors on campuses, due to begin this spring.
