Volume 56, Issue 6, Pages 2248-2253 (December 1999) Echocardiography overestimates left ventricular mass in hemodialysis patients relative to magnetic resonance imaging  Graham A. Stewart, John Foster, Michael Cowan, Esther Rooney, Theresa Mcdonagh, Henry J. Dargie, R. Stuart C. Rodger, Alan G. Jardine  Kidney International  Volume 56, Issue 6, Pages 2248-2253 (December 1999) DOI: 10.1046/j.1523-1755.1999.00786.x Copyright © 1999 International Society of Nephrology Terms and Conditions

Figure 1 (A) Pilot magnetic resonance (MR) scan with a long axis plotted through the left ventricle. (B) Typical short-axis slice through the left ventricle in end diastole. Figure 2 (A) Bland-Altman analysis and (B) influence of dilation on the echocardiographic calculation of mass. Bland-Altman plot of the difference in left ventricular mass measurement against the mean of the two measurements. Echocardiographic mass is calculated using the cube formula and corrected by the Penn convention. Magnetic resonance mass is measured in end diastole. The mean difference between each method of measurement is 102.5g. Levels of agreement (mean difference ± 2SD) are -136 and 341g. (B) Here the plot of the difference in left ventricular mass measurement (as for A), against the echocardiographic end-diastolic diameter is shown.
