Mental Health Section The Mental Health section has a character 1 value of G. The second character value for the Mental Health section always has a value of Z for none.

Character 3 Value The character 3 values specify the procedure type. The values are as follows: 1—Psychological tests 2—Crisis intervention 3—Medication management 5—Individual psychotherapy 6—Counseling

Additional Character 3 Values 7—Family psychotherapy B—Electroconvulsive therapy C—Biofeedback F—Hypnosis G—Narcosynthesis H—Group psychotherapy J—Light therapy

Character 4 Values Character 4 values for the Mental Health section are a type qualifier indicating additional information on the procedure type.

Substance Abuse Section The first character of the Substance Abuse section is H. The second character value for this section is the body system, and for substance abuse the value is always Z for none.

Definitions Detoxification services—Detoxification from alcohol and/or drugs Individual counseling—The application of psychological methods to treat an individual with addictive behavior

Definitions (cont.) Group counseling—The application of psychological methods to treat two or more individuals with addictive behavior Individual psychotherapy—Treatment of an individual with addictive behavior by behavioral, cognitive, psychoanalytic, psychodynamic, or psychophysiological means

Definitions (cont.) Family counseling—The application of psychological methods that include one or more family members to treat an individual with addictive behavior Medication management—Monitoring or adjusting the use of replacement medications for the treatment of addition

Final Definition Pharmacotherapy—The use of replacement medications for the treatment of addiction

Character 4 Character 4 is a type qualifier that specifies the procedure type. The values vary according to the third character assignment; therefore, the tables have to be referenced for specific values and definitions.
