Math 5th Grade Curriculum (Saxon Math 6/5 Text) Number and Operations Algebra Geometry Measurement Data Analysis and Probability Problem Solving Cumulative Practice and Assessment Math Facts Timed Tests – 3 minutes
Phonograms We practice 30 phonograms per week, both orally and written Tests are given weekly on 20 of the 30 phonograms practiced Once a month we assess all 70 phonograms
Spelling Spelling words are taken from the Extended Ayres word list We are starting in section “R” We input 30 words per week Please check your child’s spelling notebooks nightly The first spelling test will be given on 8/11
Writing Rubrics – 6 Traits Compositions Famous Arizonan Report Assigned Book Projects Current Event Articles All year: We will focus on sentence structure, topic sentences and details, friendly letters, journal writing… and so much more!
Reading Open Court McCall-Crabbs Selections Various Book Reports Literature Studies
Literature We will complete one literature study each quarter. Below are some possible options: Stone Fox Dear Mr. Henshaw War with Grandpa Frindle Maniac Magee Danger in the Desert
Reading – Accelerated Reader AR Goals Students must read a minimum of 30 minutes each night at home Weekly reading logs (four signatures each Friday) All goals set quarterly %-to-Goal and % Correct AR Test Once a Week Goal Home Connect All points for 1st quarter due September 23rd
Reading – Accelerated Reader Continued… AR Due Dates for Quarter One 25% - 8/12 50% - 8/26 75% - 9/9 100% - 9/23 Please check your teacher’s webpage for future AR due dates
