Total School Buses Factors to Consider: 1. The number of school buses have declined by about 5% over this 16 year period. Additionally, in 2013/14 the total number of school buses had increased by 199 over the total school buses in 1998 . 2. Regular H/S transportation is not mandated and beginning in 2010 funded thru the local level only. Over 50% of California school buses are equipped with lap/should belt restraints.

Total School Bus collisions Factors to Consider: 1. The number of school bus collisions have declined by 14% over this 16 year period. 2. State school bus driver training requirements have not changed. Most California highways are highly congested and motorist are from all over the world.

Total pupil passengers injured Factors to Consider: 1. The total number of school pupil passenger injuries have declined by 43%. Ridership on California school buses is approximately 682,000 pupils twice daily.

School bus driver at-fault collisions Factors to Consider: 1. In CY - 2006 the school bus driver was the primary cause of 42 % of all school bus accidents. In FY – 2012/13 that number dropped to 13.2 %.
