Sightseeing in Thessaloniki “Creative ways of teaching: Recycling Art & Entrepreneurial Attitude” 1st mobility – 2nd transnational meeting Thessaloniki, 4-8 of April 2016 Sightseeing in Thessaloniki Organized and Coordinated by Evangelia Korantzi

Sightseeing in Thessaloniki Discovering some of the most important places in the city’s centre.

The idea The idea was to turn the centre of Thessaloniki into a game board where the pupils would be the pieces. The participants would learn facts about the history of the most important monuments or landmarks which are located around Aristotelous Square in an interactive way.

The preparation The participants of the five countries (Hungary, Italy, Slovakia, Spain and Greece) were divided into five different mixed groups. The leader of each group was a pupil from Greece. Every group had to answer some questions. Each correct answer advances the participants to a new landmark.

The preparation Each group had eight members and 2 supervisor teachers (one Greek and one from the other countries), whose role was strictly auxiliary. There was a folder that was handed to the leader that contained 8 maps, 8 information pieces (one for each one of the pupils) and a questionnaire. The monuments were the same for the teams but the route was different.

The Map The map shows the places of interest which are marked by a red pin. When the participants arrived to a place of interest they had to put the right sticker on the little square. At the bottom of the map there is a cup. This is the finishing line.

The stickers

The questionnaire Each participant had to collaborate with the other members of the team in order to answer the questions. The teams had nine questionnaires to answer.

The questionnaires

The information pieces When the pupils had answered the questions, they read the information about the place that they visited. Thus, they learned in an experiential way the history of Thessaloniki.

The information pieces

The game All groups were gathered at the meeting point. The team that would answer correct all questions and reach first the finishing point would be the winner. The members had to collaborate and animate each other in order to win.
