GSM’s… A Driving Hazard !!!!! Safety Alert No. 1 Jan. 2000 GSM’s… A Driving Hazard !!!!! What happened ? A driver was using his GSM while going home from work. Suddenly, before he realized it, he was surprised by: A BANG! A major accident. Two cars were badly damaged. The injured persons were taken to hospital and their situation was very critical. This accident did not cause death. But it could have! How/Why can a GSM cause an accident ? Using a GSM while driving makes one forget himself/herself because it is very difficult to focus on two things at the same time. Controlling the vehicle with one hand and using the other to hold the GSM is not practical, it can cause the vehicle to get out of control. A driver tends to slow down which irritates other drivers and makes them do unsafe things. What can you learn from this accident ? NEVER use your GSM while driving. Switch it OFF/ put it on silent. With increasing usage of GSM’s while driving, this has become a major driving hazard. Do not risk your life and that of others. By the way: It is illegal in Oman to use a GSM while driving it could result in a fine or even imprisonment GSM’s... a communication tool: only safe when used wisely! ================================================================= Note for Supervisors: Make sure your staff understand this message !!!
