Vocabulary AGAIN! Slope: rate of change (y per x) y-intercept: the beginning amount Ordered pairs: pairing up two numbers that belong together.

Word Problem #1 You join a book club for a membership fee of $20, and you have to pay $3 for each book you buy. Write an equation to model this situation. y = 3x + 20

Word Problem #2 You join a gym that charges a membership fee and a fee for each class you sign up for. Each class costs $10. When you signed up for 5 classes, your cost was $100. Write an equation that models this situation. y = 10x + 50

Word Problem #3 A repair man charges $25 per hour and an initial fee for each repair. For 3 hour service call, you pay $115. Write an equation that models this situation. y = 25x + 40

Word Problem #4 Your phone company charges you for each minute you use on your phone plus an initial fee. Your bill for one month is $105 for 200 minutes of use. Your bill for the next month is $98.70 for 158 minutes of use. Write an equation that models this situation. y = .15x + 75

Word Problem #5 In 1992, there were 3200 people living in a town. In 2010, there were 5900 people living in the same town. Write an equation in slope intercept form that models this situation. Let x = 0 correspond to 1990. y = 150x + 2900
