Buy not borrow using the Relais staff web interface Presentation for the Australian Relais User Group meeting by Margaret Colmer, 6 February 2012
Instead of processing book requests as ILL requests, purchasing a copy of requested books for the collection Appropriate ILL book requests are sent to Acquisition via Relais Acquisition department have been setup within Relais as a supplier and respond to the request using staff web interface Intention is to use ILL request as user initiated order request and to identify and fill gaps in the collections from many lean collection budget years
The process ILL staff route appropriate requests to BNB, our Acquisition supplier Acquisition staff receive email alert of the request and have 24 hour to respond to the request, either by ordering the item or not
Item purchased for the collection Using the web interface Acq staff use request processing to apply reject code “Item purchased for the collection” Request is cancelled in Relais and patron notified Request now part of order and request process within ILS
Item unavailable Acquisition staff add reject code “Title not available for purchase” Request drops into list exhausted queue and ILL staff route to an ILL supplier
