Solving by Factorising Mathematic (Preliminary) Equations Solving by Factorising Quadratics Stage 6 - Year 12 Press Ctrl-A ©G Dear2008 – Not to be sold/Free to use

For any real numbers a and b, if ab = 0 then a = 0 or b = 0. Equations 2 Solving by Factorising Quadratics For any real numbers a and b, if ab = 0 then a = 0 or b = 0. Example 1 x2 + x - 6 = 0 (x + 3)(x - 2 ) = 0 Therefore x = -3 or x = 2

Solving by Factorising Quadratics Equations Solving by Factorising Quadratics Example 2 8m2 - 10m + 3 = 0 P = 24m2 8m2 - 4m -6m + 3 = 0 S = -10m F = -4m x -6m (8m2 - 4m) + (-6m + 3) = 0 4m(2m - 1) - 3(2m - 1) = 0 (2m - 1)(4m - 3) = 0 So 2m - 1=0 or 4m - 3 = 0 So m = 0.5 or m = 3/4
