2 & 3D Review

Displacement: A stranded hiker radios for help. He knows he has traveled 3.0km West, then 2.5km 30degrees North of West. Then 2.0km 45 degrees south of west. What is his total displacement?

Projectiles A marble was launched horizontally from a launcher. The mouth of the launcher was 1.00m above level ground. The marble landed on the level ground 5.00m from the base of the launcher. This launcher will be used to launch the marble just as fast as the first launch, but at a 30° angle above horizontal, from the same launch height. Determine the range and impact velocity for the marble.

Relative Motion A 50m long conveyor belt moves at 2.0m/s relative to the ground. How long will it take a person that runs at 8.0m/s to run the “wrong way” from end to end on the conveyor belt. (Think people mover at airports) The wind blows steadily at 20.0m/s 30° South of East. Which way should an airplane be aimed to proceed directly west relative to the ground if the plane is to maintain an airspeed of 90.0m/s? How long will it take this plane to travel 100km due west?
