Ground Rules for Round-Up Lesson Be Respectful Try Your Best If any student would like to be excused from this lesson, please ask for a pass to report to the counseling office for Round-Up.

What is Ruth Ellis Center? Ruth Ellis Center is an organization that provides shelter for students who need housing due to the inability to stay at home because they are LGBTQ. The AMS Leadership students have selected this as a community cause to support. The AMS Leadership class has gained donations from area partners to supply items for a student raffle. Participation in this lesson and raffle is optional. Today you will be introduced to the type of students who benefit from Ruth Ellis Center and what the Center offers for supports.

What Does LGBTQ Stand for? L- Lesbian (A girl who is attracted to girls) G- Gay (When you are attracted to the same gender) B- Bisexual (Attracted to both genders) T- Transgender (You feel that you identify with a different gender) Q- Questioning (You identify as questioning if you don’t want to label yourself but you feel different from others)

What These Words Mean to the LGBTQ Community? Some think the way they feel is bad or wrong and need support Many students who identifiy as LGBTQ may feel like they don’t fit in and need support at home or school

How Some Parents Feel Review of feedback from Ruth Ellis Center shows that: Some parents believe that the way their child feels is bad and wrong and families need support Some families are unable to find solutions together and need other support to have housing for their children Parents are looking for ways to learn to love their children no matter what.
