Independent Variables Stage 4 Year 9 Graphs of Physical Phenomena Dependant and Independent Variables Press Ctrl-A G Dear ©2010 – Not to be sold/Free to use

Independent Variables are not affected by other variables Time is an Independent Variable (except for The Doctor) Even for The Doctor, age is an Independent Variable. He’s 900 years old.

Dependent Variables are affected by other variables A persons height and weight are dependant variables. They depend on your age, the independent variable. Your height and weight, don’t affect your age!!!! 3

Independent Variables Tables of Values Independent Variables Time Height go on the left or top of a table of values. Time Height Dependent Variables go on the right or bottom of a table of values. 4

Graphs Height Time The Dependent Variable always goes on the vertical Axis The Independent Variable always goes on the horizontal Axis Dependent Variable Independent Variable 5

Exercise Click on the independent variable. Weight – Age   Height – Time Mass - Spring Length Don’t Delete Number of Hectares – Kilograms of Seed Time – Interest Number of Teachers – Number of Students 6
