The reaction in the bottle: 2 Al(s) + 6 NaOH(aq) → 3 H2 (g) + 2 Na3AlO3(aq) The black stuff Gas at room temperature Colorless Lighter than air The reactants for the reaction in the bottle: Al /aluminum NaOH /sodium hydroxide (aq - H2O) The observable products for the reaction in the bottle: H /hydrogen Na3AlO3 /sodium aluminate The reaction at the top of the bottle (and the lighted balloon): 2H2 + O2 →2H2O Extremely flammable gas
