Introduction to PowerPoint

Opening PowerPoint To open PowerPoint, go to START > PROGRAMS > MICROSOFT POWERPOINT. Click once on MICROSOFT POWERPOINT, and the panel to the right will appear: There are several pre-designed templates and presentations, but to have total creative control, click on the circle for BLANK PRESENTATION, and then click OK.

Selecting A Slide PowerPoint will open up, along with the panel below: Choose the upper left button (Title Slide) and click OK to get to the next step:

The Title Slide This is a blank PowerPoint page, ready for editing. Click in the boxes to change the text:

Adding More Slides Now that we have completed changing the text, we need to add another slide. We will be doing this a lot of different times, and the way it is done is always the same way. Go to the top of your page, click on INSERT > NEW SLIDE, as shown below:

Selecting A Slide Style This brings us to the panel below. Since we already have a Title Slide, we will choose a different layout for the rest of our slides. I have selected the bottom left box in the picture below (Text & Clip Art). Click OK.

Making Changes This displays a new slide with our new layout. This one is also ready for changes. For demonstration purposes, I named this slide “My Life Story”. Text was added to the left side of the slide, and clip art was added to the right side, as shown below:

Adding A Background Now it’s time to make our Slide Show special, by adding some “Special Effects”. To do this we go to the top of our screen again, and go to FORMAT > BACKGROUND, as shown below:

Background, Step #2 That will open up the Background Options panel. Click on the small arrow as shown in the picture at the right, and then click on FILL EFFECTS.

Background, Step #3 You can apply the background only to this slide, or choose APPLY TO ALL, which is what I did here. This opens the Fill Effects panel. I have chosen Texture, and a light blue color. Click OK.

Background, Step #4 Now, all slides in your presentation will have the same background.

Slide Transitions Besides choosing a background color for our slides, we can also choose how the pages change from slide to slide. We do this by looking to the top of our page again, and going to SLIDE SHOW > SLIDE TRANSITION.

Slide Transitions Part #2 This opens up the Slide Transition panel. It will open up to “No Transition”, but we can choose any of the many options listed below by once again clicking on the “down arrow” as shown at the right. Choose any transition you like, and click APPLY TO ALL.

Finishing Your Project 1. Keep adding more slides and special effects as you need them. 2. On your keyboard push the F5 key to preview your new slide show. 3. Go to the top of your page and click FILE > SAVE to name your PowerPoint Slideshow, and save it to show later.

Showing Your Project Now that you have completed your project, you can email it to people for them to view on their own computer (as long as they have the PowerPoint program), or present it with a projector on a large screen. Just open your project, and go to SLIDE SHOW > VIEW SHOW, or simply hit the F5 key. Click the mouse to change slides.

PowerPoint Graduation There are many more options and special effects to use in PowerPoint, but this is a good start…. Congratulations, You Did It !!!
