A training aid for teachers and students. Frederick Cox How to find books using the Atlanta-Fulton Public Library Website A training aid for teachers and students.

All Bennett Students must use the Atlanta-Fulton Public library Website to find available resources for their research projects. All teachers are expected to use the library as a lesson development resource. This training aid will illustrate how to seek print sources using the AFPL online catalog. The main focus will be on circulating books.

Go to Atlanta-Fulton Public Library Website STEP ONE Go to Atlanta-Fulton Public Library Website http://www.afplweb.com/cms/

Select “Catalog Search under Search Options. Then click GO STEP TWO Select “Catalog Search under Search Options. Then click GO OR

Click the Books & Materials link. Then select Catalog Search

STEP THREE Type a book title, author, subject or key word in the “Search for” box then press the corresponding button. There is rarely a need to use the series button.

When searching by author be sure to type author’s last name first followed by a comma.

In the box titled “library” you have the option of selecting which of the AFPL’s 34 branches you would like to check for the specific item. Just click where the blue arrow is pointing.

Once you have clicked the box, you will see a list of all the library locations in the system. For best results keep the box on ALL. You can always request an item from another branch.

You can also do a more advanced search by clicking the “Power Search” link.

“Power Search” allows the user to combine search terms for a more precise hit. For example, type a book title in the title box, and the author’s name in the author box.

The best way to get an exact hit is to enter the International Standard Book Number in the ISBN box. This catalog number is assigned to every book. Every book published after 2005 has a 13 digit ISBN while prior publications have a 10 digit ISBN.

Once you have entered your search term or combined terms, just click the “Search” button.

The catalog will list all the important information about the book; title, author, publisher and publication year. It will also list the AFPL library branches that carry the particular book.

Central Library can be reached at: If you have any further questions about finding books using the Atlanta-Fulton Public Library Website feel free to call a library branch, and ask to speak to a reference librarian. Central Library can be reached at: (404) 730-1700
