Online training for mentors ITKAM

I. What is CrossEUWBA? A two-year-project co-funded by the European Union. The project pursues the overall objective of facilitating the funding of women entrepreneurs (WE) through women business angels (WBA) and contributing to the creation of a sustainable base of private investment in Europe.

BAND – Business Angels Netzwerk Deutschland A few numbers… Only 13% of startups in Germany have been founded or co-founded by a woman Gruenderszene.de, 2016 The EU recognizes Women Entrepreneurs as a source of untapped entrepreneurial potential that has to be more efficiently supported.  Only 5-7% of Business Angels in Germany are female BAND – Business Angels Netzwerk Deutschland

II. Why it is important to train more WBA? Many women in Europe have enough entrepreneurial experience and financial resources to become successful investors (untapped potential) ; Women invest differently than men; According to the Financial Times, female investors invest at a greater rate in female founded companies

III. CrossEUWBA – Free mentoring programme  Adressed to novice WBA; A network of mentors based in 5 european countries; Different fields of expertise; Voluntary and free of charge;

IV. Reasons to become a mentor To pass on your knowledge and expertise; To develop your leadership skills; To learn new perspectives; To strenghten you communicative skills; To gain satisfaction; To be part of someone else’s success; To make an impact! Our final aim is to increase the number of ready-for-investment female startups and the number of female angel investors.

V. The role of a mentor The role of a mentor is to: Pass on information and knowledge; Motivate the mentee to leave his/her comfort zone; Offer support and encouragement; Give advice and feedbacks without forcing decisions; Build a trust relationship; Be a role model; Be open and learn from the mentee;

VI. Mentoring life cycle

VII. Ways of mentoring Formal VS Informal Face-to-face VS E-Learning One-to-One VS Group mentoring Peer mentoring

VII. Content of mentoring (example)  Start from your personal experience  The role of a Business Angel  Finding the right startup  The path to investment  Exit strategy  Share your failures!  Celebrate together!
