WG on Statistical Confidentiality (TRansport Information System) TRIS (TRansport Information System) TRIS 1 / TRIS 2 Nico Hilbert Nico.Hilbert@ec.europa.eu

TRIS 1 What is TRIS? TRIS is an Information System (IS) framework What is TRIS doing? It implements & integrates under TRIS 1 the today’s Transport IT systems as sub-systems: The legal transport modes’ data collections (Aviation, Inland Waterways, Maritime, Rail, Road Freight) The voluntary data collections (Regional, Common Questionnaire) Indicators (newly developed from an EXCEL desktop application)

TRIS 1 What was the objective of TRIS 1? Implement / integrate / harmonise / document the today’s Transport IT systems with only minor changes into TRIS sub-systems Enable the Transport IT systems to interface with the Directorate B developed IT/IS systems and services, use its components and building blocks Enable VISION compliance

TRIS 2 What is TRIS 2 doing? It will implement & integrate as TRIS 2 sub- systems also the future Transport IT systems like: Aviation air emissions (an extension of the Aviation transport mode TRIS sub- system merging statistical data with other data sources) Road traffic (first as voluntary data collection later as a legal data collection) Transport Safety (as a voluntary data collection by and from the transport safety agencies )

TRIS 2 What is the objective of TRIS 2? Implement a cooperative validation environment with Member Countries in the standard and secured IT environments in EUROSTAT Enable the Transport IT systems to interface with the new Directorate B developed IT/IS systems, services, components, tools and building blocks converging to and complying with the VISION With TRIS 2 (and future versions of TRIS) continue implementing the VISION as of the availability of the items here before

TRIS 1 & TRIS 2 TRIS is implemented in the EUROSTAT standard and secured IT environments 2 legal transport modes (Aviation, Inland Waterways), 2 voluntary data collections (Regional, Common Questionnaire) and Indicators are implemented under TRIS in the standard EUROSTAT IT environment 3 legal transport modes (Maritime, Rail, Road Freight) are implemented under TRIS in the secured EUROSTAT IT environment TRIS has an IS architecture based on the state of the art n-tier thin client / server model

typically a Web-Browser like MS Internet Explorer on a PC TRIS 1 / 2 Architecture TRIS Information System Architecture based on the n-Tier Thin Client/Server Model Thin Client typically a Web-Browser like MS Internet Explorer on a PC PC Client launching a request to the Web Server eDAMIS Web Server Web Server If the Web Server cannot satisfy the request from the PC Client it is becoming itself a Client launching a request to the Application Server eDAMIS Application Server + eVE (TRIS 2) Application Server ECAS Server BO Server (TRIS 1) If the Application Server cannot satisfy the request from the Web Server, it is becoming itself a Client launching a request to another Application Server or to the Database or to the Authentication Servers EBB Server TRIS 1 EBB 2007 TRIS 2 EBB 2010 Database Server

TRIS Data Management of the TRIS sub-systems are sub-contracted and are executed as follows: From the premises of the sub-contractor outside EUROSTAT for those transport modes processing non-confidential statistical data in the standard IT environment (Aviation and Inland Waterways) From the secured data rooms inside EUROSTAT for those transport modes processing confidential statistical data in the secured IT environment (Maritime, Rail and Road Freight)

TRIS 2 Architecture extension Waiting for new extended network architecture implementation stemming from the network architecture to be implemented for the access for researchers from secured data rooms in the NSIs TRIS – eDAMIS data confidentiality issues in reports No or limited values to be included in the reports Reported errors must mostly be related to the record numbers + record key identifier in the MSs input dataset received via eDAMIS
