Occultation of Venus by 15% waning Moon, 2015 May 24 2014 July 13 32nd Annual IOTA Meeting University of Maryland Observatory College Park, MD David W. Dunham
Visible from central & eastern Australia A good opportunity to video record the dark side of Venus before its sunlit parts reappear, to possibly record the illusive “Ashen light”; this has never been done before, as far as I know. The occultation will occur in New Zealand but in daylight so ashen light observations are not possible there.
Moonview for the event at Alice Springs Reappearance will occur at 19:15:05 UT near the middle of the dark side at Cusp Angle 78N, just south of Mare Crisium. Venus’ 29.7 disk will be 40% Sunlit, so its dark side will be visible without interference from the sunlit parts for about half the time of the predicted 72s for Venus to reappear.
