Learning for Life and Lifelong learning Focusing on 10 years of quality basic education that goes beyond academics… Broad and Inclusive Approach and Providing Each Child with a Broad and Holistic Education Deep values, Deep Commitment to Singapore and Deep Foundation for Learning Learning for Life and Lifelong learning We will build on the strengths in our system to prepare our children for the future. Hence, there will be a greater focus on delivering a student-centric, values-driven education, one that goes beyond academics. 1. We want to be Broad and Inclusive in our approach of Providing Opportunities for Every Child and giving them a Broad and Holistic Education   Move from over-emphasis on grades to multi-dimensional definition of success, holistic development Multiple pathways; open and inclusive system Comprehensive feedback about child’s holistic development Not chasing last mark, can devote the time to something more meaningful/constructive; primary school still about acquiring strong foundation, but now also want to focus on discovering interests and strength Discover their interests and talents over a wide range of disciplines; connections across different domains of knowledge 2. We want Each child to have Deep Values and a Deep Commitment to Singapore Character and Citizenship Education Empathy for their fellow men And each child to have a Deep Foundation  Maintaining rigour in our education system to prepare students for the rigours of work and life 3. We want all students to engage in Lifelong learning What matters for the long-haul, and not just what matter for exams Learning for Life Not just about careers, unleash our human spirit, to find purpose in life, to explore truth, beauty and goodness

Every child can succeed OUR BELIEF Every child can succeed

Subject-Based Banding (SBB) Why introduce Subject-Based Banding? To recognise the different abilities of students - Provide more flexibility in subject combinations for students with strengths and abilities that vary across subjects

Subject-Based Banding (SBB) Standard vs. Foundation Subject Foundation subjects put focus on mastery of core content and skills. These are pitched at a lower level as compared to the corresponding standard subject.

SUBJECT-BASED BANDING AT P4 School recommends a subject combination based on P4 examination results. Parents select preferred combination. If your child (at the end of P4) Your child will be recommended to take Pass all 4 subjects and performs very well in MTL 4 standard subjects + HMT Passes all 4 subjects 4 standard subjects Passes 3 subjects Passes 2 subjects or less 3 standard subjects + 1 other foundation subject; or 2 standard subjects + 2 other foundation subjects; or 1 standard subject + 3 other foundation subjects 4 foundation subjects Now let’s look at how we will recommend the option for your child at the end of Primary 4. Besides the Primary 4 examination results, we will also take into consideration your child’s performance in a subject from past assessments such as (….), as well as comments and observations by your child’s teachers. What is the school likely to recommend for your child? If your child passes all 4 subjects at the end of Primary 4 and performs very well in Mother Tongue Language, he will be recommended to take 4 standard subjects and Higher Mother Tongue Language. (according to the text in the table). 18 18

Subject-Based Banding (SBB) At P4 to P5 School recommends a subject combination based on students’ school-based exam results. Parents fill up an option form to indicate preferred combination.

SUBJECT-BASED BANDING AT P5 In summary, your child will take a subject determined by the school at Primary 6, based on our professional judgement of what would be best for your child. At the end of P6, your child will sit for the PSLE. For your child’s cohort, all subjects are examinable except Foundation Science. Examinable Foundation Science will only be offered one year later as we need to review the Foundation Science syllabus to make it examinable, as it is not currently designed as an examinable subject. 20 20

Subject-Based Banding (SBB) At P5 to P6 Students take subject combination chosen by the school.

Thank You
