“…he that endures to the end shall be saved” (Matthew 10:22) Motives for Endurance “…he that endures to the end shall be saved” (Matthew 10:22)

Endurance Encouraged: Jas. 1:12, “Blessed is the man that endures temptation: for when he is tried, he shall receive the crown of life, which the Lord hath promised to them that love him. Rev. 2:10, “ Fear none of those things which thou shalt suffer: behold, the devil shall cast some of you into prison, that ye may be tried; and ye shall have tribulation ten days: be thou faithful unto death, and I will give thee a crown of life.”

Endurance Encouraged: Heb. 10:32-38, “But recall those earlier days when, after you had been enlightened, you endured a hard struggle with sufferings, sometimes being publicly exposed to abuse and persecution, and sometimes being partners with those so treated. For you had compassion for those who were in prison, and you cheerfully accepted the plundering of your possessions, knowing that you yourselves possessed something better and more lasting. Do not, therefore, abandon that confidence of yours; it brings a great reward. For you need endurance, so that when you have done the will of God, you may receive what was promised. For yet "in a very little while, the one who is coming will come and will not delay; but my righteous one will live by faith. My soul takes no pleasure in anyone who shrinks back.”

Endurance Encouraged: 1 Cor. 15:58, “Therefore, my beloved brethren, be ye stedfast, unmoveable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, forasmuch as ye know that your labour is not in vain in the Lord.”

Enemies of Endurance FATIGUE Gal. 6:9, “And let us not be weary in well doing: for in due season we shall reap, if we faint not.” 2 Cor. 7:5, “For, when we were come into Macedonia, our flesh had no rest…”

Enemies of Endurance FEAR 2 Cor. 7:5, “…but we were troubled on every side; without were fightings, within were fears.” 1 Kgs. 19:2, 3, “Then Jezebel sent a messenger to Elijah, saying, ‘So may the gods do to me, and more also, if I do not make your life like the life of one of them by this time tomorrow.’ Then he was afraid; he got up and fled for his life, and came to Beer-sheba, which belongs to Judah; he left his servant there.

Enemies of Endurance FAILURE 1 Kgs. 19:9, 10, “…Then the word of the LORD came to him, saying, ‘What are you doing here, Elijah?’ He answered, ‘I have been very zealous for the LORD, the God of hosts; for the Israelites have forsaken your covenant, thrown down your altars, and killed your prophets with the sword. I alone am left, and they are seeking my life, to take it away.’”

Enemies of Endurance FALSE FRIENDS 2 Sam. 15:12, “While Absalom was offering the sacrifices, he sent for Ahithophel the Gilonite, David's counselor, from his city Giloh. The conspiracy grew in strength, and the people with Absalom kept increasing. A messenger came to David, saying, ‘The hearts of the Israelites have gone after Absalom.’”

Enemies of Endurance FAULTS Jas. 5:16, “Therefore confess your sins to one another, and pray for one another, so that you may be healed. The prayer of the righteous is powerful and effective.”

Nature Of Persecution: REJECTION: Mt. 10:14-15 PHYSICAL HARM: Mt. 10:16-21 HATRED: Mt. 10:22 PERSECUTION: Mt. 10:23 NAMECALLING: Mt. 10:24-25 “All That Will Live Godly In Christ Jesus Shall Suffer Persecution” - 2 Tim. 3:12

Motives For Endurance 1. Mt. 10:24,25: Since the Master suffered, the servants can expect no less (Jn. 15:20; Heb. 12:1-2; 1 Pet. 2:21; 4:1)

Motives For Endurance 2. Mt. 10:26, 27: Secret sins will be revealed (Rom. 2:16; Psa. 90:8; 1 Cor. 4:5) Wicked cannot hide their evil! Your cause will be vindicated! So, speak openly, unashamed, unafraid!

Motives For Endurance 3. Mt. 10:28: Better to fear God’s wrath rather than man’s (Heb. 2:1-3; 10:26-31; 12:29)

Motives For Endurance 4. Mt. 10:29-31: If God notices the lowly things, He cares for you! Mt. 6:25-34: God will provide! You have individual worth and value! Mk. 8:36,37; Gal. 2:20 “…gave himself for Me"

Motives For Endurance 5. Mt. 10:32, 33: Acceptance or rejection, confession or denial, depends on endurance (2 Tim. 2:12) Imagine a parent, child, or mate’s denial of you! Now, imagine Jesus denying you!

Motives For Endurance 6. Mt. 10:34-35: Expect enemies to arise from among your own people (Mic. 7:1-7)

Motives For Endurance 7. Mt. 10:34-39: Loving Jesus more than anyone and losing one’s life for Jesus will lead to a great reward

Motives For Endurance 8. Mt. 10:40-42: Some along the way will receive the message of the gospel (see vv.11-13; Lk. 8:15)

He That Endures to the End Jesus has given us the commission Jesus has given us the caution Jesus has given us the cost Jesus has given us the courage (motives for endurance)
