6th Grade AIM Welcome Curriculum Objectives Supply List Class Times Carrie Sledge, GT Specialist for Green Elementary Carrie_Sledge@allenisd.org Room 129 Welcome Wow! I can’t believe this will be the students last year of AIM at Green! I love that I have the same students year after year. I get to see so much growth. This year’s study is the 1920s and ‘30’s. This is my 22nd year in education and at GREEN! WOW I am old! I have a daughter, Ellen, who is in 6th grade here. I love learning new things and crave creativity, and can’t wait to learn with, and from, your children. I hope that you find this year brings many new experiences to you and your child and that the skills your child works on in AIM will prepare them for future learning in and outside of the classroom! Follow our journey on Twitter! @GreenGTAim Curriculum This year our integrated unit of study is The 1920s in America: A Decade of Tension. We will be studying the United States during this decade to learn how systems of geography, government, economics, and culture interact. Students will also determine cause and effect relationships involving events of this time period. The curriculum objectives for the year are listed below. Each student will have the opportunity to research, contribute to discussions, and present various projects throughout the year. In addition, activities focusing on critical/creative problem solving in the areas of science, technology, engineering, arts, and mathematics will be implemented. Investigations may vary depending on grade level. Objectives Examining the economic, social and political changes of the 1920s Investigating the role and experiences of sub populations in the 1920s Exploring the sentiments and influences of the popular cultures Describing experiences of American citizens during the 1920s era & the Great Depression Analyzing and interpreting primary documents to locate information about the 1920s Supply List Binder-any kind/any type and dividers Foil-any kind and amount Donation List The items listed below are materials we will need in AIM for this year.
