1.4 Surface Area of Other Composite Objects Lesson 4 Math 9

Quick Review A right rectangular prism has 3 pairs of congruent (identical) faces. The top and bottom faces The front and back faces The left and right side faces The surface area is the sum of the area of all the faces

SA = 2 x area of the top + 2 x the area of the side + 2 x area of the front

A right triangular prism has 5 faces 2 congruent triangular faces 3 rectangular faces The surface area is the sum of the areas of the rectangular faces, and the triangular bases.

SA = 2 x area of base + areas of the 3 rectangular faces. Remember: Area of a triangle; Base x height 2 B x h Base Base

A cylinder has 2 circular bases, and a rectangle with one side equal to the circumference of the circle, and the other equal to the height of the cylinder. The surface area is the sum of the 2 circular bases, and the rectangle.

SA = 2 x area of one circular base + (circumference of base x height of cylinder) SA = (2 x 𝜋 𝑟 2 )+(2 𝜋𝑟 x height) r height
